Welcome to Room 43!Welcome back to school and welcome to Ms. Casriel's first grade class! On the first day of school, you will receive an envelope with lots of school wide information. There are several things you need to fill out and return. Please return these forms by Friday, August 16th.
Snacks: First grade recess is at 9:50. Please pack your child a HEALTHY snack. Healthy foods help children focus better in class and learn to the best of their abilities. Besides, it's best to teach healthy habits early!!! Times: Arrival Procedures - Please make every effort to have your child here on time so we can have as few classroom disruptions as possible. There is supervision on the playground starting at 7:30am. The morning bell rings at 7:55 and students are to line up by their classroom number on the playground. The second bell rings at 8:00, at which time children should be in the classroom ready to start their day. Students coming in late need to pick up a tardy slip from the office. Dismissal Procedures - Dismissal is at 2:17 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, and at 12:45 on Wednesdays. The first weeks of school, first graders will ALL exit from the front gate by the flag pole. After Back to School Night, we will discuss the option of exiting at the Excelsior gate. Homework: A monthly homework calendar will go home at the beginning of each month. Complete, initial & highlight at least 10 activities on the calendar and return the calendar at the end of the month. Feel free to do as many activities as you'd like!!! Attached to the calendar are 4 weekly Reading Logs. Read nightly with your child and complete the log. Tear off the Reading Log and return it EACH Friday. Children become better readers by reading often. There is no shortcut, so please read with your child on a daily basis. This special time together is the attention your child needs and wants, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it, too!! Volunteers: I love to have volunteers in the classroom. Right now the children and I need to spend time getting to know each other and getting comfortable with routines and expectations. This is all part of building a strong classroom community. We will talk about volunteers at Back to School Night on Wedsday, August 30th. Book Orders: Each month I will send home a Scholastic Book Club order. These clubs provide great, inexpensive books & materials. Every order helps build bonus points that I use to order new books to build our classroom library. If you place an order, you can pay by cash, check (made to Scholastic Reading Club) or you can order online. When ordering online, use our classroom activation code: DZM86 Back to School Night: Wednesday, August 28th This will be a time for us to discuss important first grade information and get to know each other. No students please. Contact Information: Please get in touch with me if you have any questions. The best way to reach me is by e-mail: [email protected] I am looking forward to meeting you all and having a wonderful year together!! |
