After weeks of rehearsals, the big day finally arrived! Our class, along with the entire first grade, performed in the Spring Performance. The kids did a phenomenal job and I am so very proud of them. Below are video clips from the Chicken Dance and Do Re Mi. For some reason, the videos stop often while playing. I'll try to solve that problem. Enjoy!!!

This year we have written personal narrative stories, letters, and expository/descriptive pieces. Now we are jumping into a whole new genre - Opinion Writing. We began our unit of study on thinking and writing about the things small children collect. The children brought in their collections and we spent deciding which thing in their collection was the best. The next step was for the kids to explain why. We are working on providing 3 reasons to support their opinions. Check out some of the collections below.
It's not often that we get rain, but boy did it come down on Read Across America. Luckily, we were warm and cozy in our classroom all day. We had two readers join us during the day. They were Adela Lopez, a retired professor from Fullerton College, and Lieanna, a Clipper Girl. Not only did they read stories to the children, but they shared a bit about their lives. In the afternoon, many families came to read to their children. Read Across America is always a special day. Thanks to everyone that was able to spend some special time with their children!
