Here's a break down of our unit:
We played 20 questions to figure out what was in the mystery bag. After quickly analyzing the bag, each student wrote a question in order help solve the mystery.
In order to figure out the number of kisses in the bag, partners were given a quart-size (about the size of the Hershey's Kisses bag, and cubes to try to replicate the amount of kisses in the real bag. We discussed that there is air at the top, so they need to be thoughtful of how full to make their bags. Next, the partners estimated the amount of cubes and then counted them by creating groups of tens. SUCH POWERFUL LEARNING!

DAY 3:
On this day, the kids had to play a game to help uncover the clue about this day's work.
Each child had a number card and had to get themselves in order from the smallest to largest number. They had to work together to make it happen! Check it out...

This is my favorite day of the unit... making boxes!
Again, the kids worked together to find the box that would hold the most cubes in order to find the one that would hold the MOST kisses to add to the candy jar.
Check out all of this amazing work!

This is the children's FAVORITE DAY!! They finally get to eat the kisses. But first, we needed to count them all and decide how to divide them up so that each person would get the same amount. We tossed around lots of ideas. There weren't enough tens for everyone to get 10, so they decided that everyone would get 5 & then saw that everyone would get 4 more. There was a remainder and decided to give them to one of our helpers and Mrs. Rayburn. :)
