After learning much about Lincoln & Washington, we spend a few days completing a Venn Diagram to compare & contrast these two presidents. Ask your child some of the differences and similarities of these two presidents. **Next week, the kids will complete a Venn Diagram comparing themselves to another classmate. That should be fun!! The class had a great time playing a penny toss game. The kids are noticing that the presidents we are studying are also on the money we use! Take a look... Each day, I teach the kids a different mini-lesson to help them develop as readers. One of our mini lessons focused on reading comprehension. Many kids are finding this helpful to remember what they read. Try it at home!! Another mini-lesson was on sitting back-to-back with their reading partners as they do independent reading. This helps them to focus and not be distracted as they read. It also makes transitioning to partner reading super fast and efficient :) There are lots of different ways to build numbers and solve equations. The kids love to share their strategies!! Take a look at how some of the first graders are finding their own ways to solve a story problem that is essentially multiplication!!
