Our first unit is on Personal Narratives - true stories about ourselves. The best stories are those that we call "small moments," telling a story about a specific event. Many kids are writing "boo-boo" stories about a time they got hurt. When something comes up at home, remind your child that they can write about it during Writer's Workshop.
The children are also working on writing their stories across 3 pages (beginning, middle, & end.) Have your child tell you about something that's happened to him/her across three fingers. That really helps when they write their stories!!!

Our focus in reading is on making connections to what we read. These are called "TEXT TO SELF" connections. After I read aloud a story, the kids discuss & write what they story reminded them about in their own lives. Try this at home!
