That's what the kids explored this week through Mystery Science!
The class had fun exploring how different beaks work to pick up food. They used cups to replicate a duck's beak and a folded straw to act as a pointy beak. The kids used their beaks to try to pick up the food (macaroni) and black beans were the rocks they were trying to avoid as they picked up the food, just like birds do!

NONFICTION TEXT FEATURES
This week we had a READING PARTY to explore text features found in nonfiction texts!
We sat in a big circle and everyone was given a nonfiction book. When the chime rang, they passed the book to the next person and got a new book to explore. The kids had fun finding these elements - TABLE OF CONTENTS, MAPS, DIAGRAMS, GLOSSARIES, INDEXES, and so much more. At home, make sure to discuss how these features help readers understand nonfiction topics!!
