Reading aloud to children provides them an opportunity to build their vocabulary, listen to fluent reading, and really focus on enjoying and comprehending text that is most likely above their own reading level. In our class, I read aloud chapter books from the Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park. The kids love hearing about her adventures in first grade. Think about reading chapter books to your child at home. It's a great time to bond and develop a love of reading!!!
After each word is written, we go back and reread the sentence, just as they should be doing in their own reading & writing. This piece took us 5 days to create. Take a look...
Spiders !!!
We have been reading, writing, and drawing about spiders. The kids have drawn diagrams to learn the parts of a spider's body, as well as creating a chart to distinguish the differences between a spider & an insect. We will finish up our learning on spiders next week by creating spiders and drawing/writing everything that they've learned on the topic!
EARTHQUAKE DRILL
(The kids made visors to try to stay cool on a super hot day.)
